Drawing the production line to a close after 18 years and many hundreds of locomotives was 66779. This locomotive was specially finished in British Railways lined green it was to be named “Evening Star”. The loco also carried commemorative bells above the cab windows and a plaque denoting its significance in the Class 66 story. Its appearance reflected that of BR class 9F 92220, Evening Star which famously brought the curtain down for steam production for British Railways. In an unveiling ceremony at York on the 10th May 2016, GBRf CEO, John Smith promised the locomotive to the National Railway Museum when it reaches the end of its expected service life. Still carrying its special BR lined green livery it can be seen working across the country on all manner of GBRf workings.

Our Class 66 model is based on the award winning ‘accura-standard’ platform, with all-wheel powered six-axle bogies, a powerful twin flywheel fitted motor and market leading electronics package.

Fantastic model

Yet another fantastic model from Accurascale. I was fortunate to get one of the "spare" models after the initial batch sold out.

Accurascale have done a great job of sorting out the problems with the original Hattons' version of this model and the rotating axle box issue seems to have been solved, subject to longer running. Separating the body from the chassis is a lot easier now, it took about 10 minutes to remove the body, replace the buffer beam, add crew and replace the body, and no sign of any damage to the ladders.

Beautiful model

You open the box and Wow, what a beautiful model, perfect satin sheen. You lift the loco out and it feels like quality - heavyweight, detailed but not fragile. You put it on the track and it runs perfectly straight from the box. The assurance of a lifetime warrantly. £170 and worth every penny. This is what buying a model should feel like every time. Thank you Accurascale for making me feel that valued as a customer and for allowing me to enjoy such a beautiful model.

Wonderful Model

Really quite exquisite model. The manufacturing is to a high standard and the decoration is flawless, despite the complexity of the livery on Evening Star. Lovely rendition of colouring. Very fine bell fitted uniquely on this example. Arrived with all bits attached to the model. Runs generally smoothly although slight judder which I hope will disappear with running in, otherwise I've no doubt Accurascale support will resolve. Box is very attractive.

What a STAR!

Fabulous Evening from the Accurascale boys yet again!
Previous 'other' versions were good, this is much better and i look forward to the 66 being a mainstay of the Accurascale fleet for many a year to come.

Superb Class 66!

I love my Hattons Class 66’s but Accurascale have refined this model to perfection! Details, coupling heights (for Kadee) are perfect and very smooth running motor makes for a flawless model. I want to buy more if they do another run and I highly recommend this loco to anyone!
Keep up the great work Accurascale - I’m now looking forward to the Class 60

Another excellent model from Accurascale

As a dyed-in-the-wool 1970s/80s era modeller, it takes something rather special to tempt me into a "current operations" model. In spite of this I had already added a Hattons shed to my stud, this being 66789. I had no thought of adding another until the announcement that Accurascale were taking over and improving the tooling. I was keen on 779 as like 789 this was a loco which seemed to be following me about at one time. I missed out when orders were first announced, but when I noticed that a few "spares" were available I quickly snapped one up. The model certainly lives up to expectations, having moved on from the already excellent Hattons Originals model. The only criticisms are the front handrail being plastic and easily deformed, and the headlight setting. All photos I have seen show that 779 has (or at least had as built) the conventional arrangement where only the secondman's headlight is illuminated in daylight, the driver's side headlight being illuminated after dark. Photos show that some locos, notably 66415, have run with all lights working together but as built I an fairly sure that this was not the case for this loco.

The other criticism is not of the model but of the packaging. The usual giant bubble packing was present around the loco except at the base of the box, which was touching the outer card of the parcel. Fortunately, and testament to the inner packaging, my model arrived in perfect condition, but perhaps the packing staff should be reminded that packing should surround the model on all six sides.

That apart, another excellent model which runs superbly on my DC controller and really captures the look of this unique loco.
